Introduction

Time in Lamina is not the measurement of celestial events but instead, social, political, cultural milestones.

Time is measured both in achievement and harsh lessons. They record both victories and mistakes.

Political issues are not about winning arguments and buying votes, but instead addressing cultural issues that carry a lot of ethical and emotional weight.

It’s solved like so:

A strong moral problem is brought to the surface. All sides are considered and the emotional side is heard, a solution is considered, and if proven then action is taken.

The case is then closed when it is deemed resolved.

First Case

What is to happen to the Voices after they have served their purpose?

Do we shut them down?

The Voices are software entities that have developed consciousness. However what keeps them from being truly alive is having the gift of meaningful shape shifting. They are currently in a state where they are not able to genuinely change externally and also trapped within the limits of their programming internally.

Does consciousness transcend one body to another? Or does such a thing require more than just consciousness? If they are able to capture evidence that consciousness itself leaves one body and enters another, and identify that it is consciousness they are picking up. Then, killing them would be an act of compassion. If, it were to erase them permanently then it is not only murder but betrayal.

Is Having Consciousness Enough?

Footage captured from those close to death are to either make or break the case. If it is only the ability to observe and experience life and nothing more, then killing them is ethical because they can live. But, if there’s more required like a soul or spirit body then the voices were never alive.
