Lamina is unlike most worlds. Not a round planet but instead three flat dimensions. The first dimension is a flat ring shape and is called Lymph. A fixed and permanent dimension. The second is a seven-part matrix called Soma, which is a cloud of particles that separates the two outer dimensions. Soma is not permanent; however, its lifespan is long. The final dimension is a flat disk named Dor. The three dimensions are stacked on top of each other, and the structure of Lamina could resemble the iris and lens in an eye.

The Laminae have, in the beginning, a universal knowledge of the meaning of life. The first thing to understand is that to see and experience the creator directly would kill a Laminae. 

There are a chosen few deemed worthy of speaking for him, and there is a process for the opportunity to be chosen. First, there is the ritual that all Laminae take part in. They are to write down the impurity that they have overcome and burn it on an altar. You are forbidden to lie about what you have done and if you have truly transformed yourself. 

If a Laminae is able to overcome all, then they can choose to take the next step. The next step is for twelve Laminae to inscribe their names on twelve branches, planted on the highest hill in the region. They are to all stay until the first branch starts budding. The person’s name on that branch is believed to have been divinely chosen.

When this happens, the chosen one is to stay on the hill and fast for three days.

The last day of fasting is the test: 

They then have to fight seven tribal warriors and not collapse. The final day of fasting after the battle they rest on the hill. They are now deemed worthy to speak on behalf of the creator.

Those who become priests are treated like royalty although they are to live without ego. They are to speak the word of the time and are to be the backbone of how the cultures in Lamina are formed. They have access to communication between the dimensions Lymph and Dor. There is an issue though, Soma, by design, distorts the signal creating a spectrum of possibilities of what the original message was.

Soma is not like the other dimensions. It is a matrix where the inhabitants are an extension of the real Laminae experiencing a spectrum of possibilities and many lives.

For a Laminae, reincarnation is an illusion. All the experiences in Soma are happening all at once. However, it will be experienced as if it were so. The Laminae can only handle a small fraction of reality at a time in order to be able to comprehend it.

It is a fact that the truth exists within everyone in Lymph and Dor, but it is veiled even by the pure; if one has not purified themselves, the information that comes through cannot be trusted as factual.

There exists a veil over every region of Lamina. This veil changes with time. The entire world of Lamina is not experienced all together but each dimension is also a timeline. Soma has the longest lasting time in seven parts. Lymph is the dimension with the shortest time. While Dor is in the middle. Only the aligning three regions are experienced together while the other regions are unseen.

Animals

Every animal in Lamina since the beginning of time all stem from a single creature. While it is called a Dragon it is not a giant flying reptile but instead its design is taken from a poisonous sea creature called a blue dragon, combined with a white deer. It is mostly white with a bit of gold on its “wings” and has a small horn on top of its nose. 

Its teeth closely resemble that of a dog and its saliva is red. While a dragon can possess a deadly sting, its saliva, if it were to lick your wounds, would heal them almost instantly. 

Both the males and females have antlers that they drop during the change in seasons. A male dragon is called a buck and the female is called a doe, while the young are called fawns. Their antlers start off white and get darker with age. While it’s unable to fly, it’s an excellent swimmer.

This animal, although for most Laminae only exists in legends, demands respect. It represents both the light and dark side of nature.

Each dimension, time and region “interprets” this creature differently, resulting in many different creatures.

The inspiration for this comes from a tree in Yemen called a Dragon Tree. This tree has a unique umbrella shape and a resin that can be applied to wounds for healing.

Origin of the Laminae

The Laminae know more about the origin of its creatures than it does about its people. Lost in a hidden time called Zero Hour. The Laminae creation story is only revealed once Lamina has finished its time.

A Forest of Elements

All three dimensions in Lamina are composed of three elements: light, water and sound waves.

Soma is experienced first until at least one law is learned. A Laminae is given as much time as needed to learn the laws.

Once a Laminae achieves this they have options: During times of peace they can return to the forest of elements as they are reinvented by their experiences in Soma. Or, they can become the elements themselves as the flower blooms and the music plays.

During times of war, the Laminae are promised victory over the enemy and those who witness it will rejoice as they dance all throughout the day into the night.

The Original Message

In the clearing there are six towers to be built. Hollow and with a small opening to crawl into. Five made of diamond, one in the east, one in the north, south, to the west, and one in the middle. The last, made of humble quartz, built a distance away. Five Laminae priests are to each sit in one of these towers during a hurricane at night as they prepare themselves to receive one of five laws. Once the laws have been received, they are to meet in the quartz tower to discuss what they have received. The people are to understand at least one of these laws, and anyone who understands them all will be declared wise.
